If you have been a regular at Rochester Park, you would have noticed a recent inclusion in the vicinity. The new CapitaMall Asia’s asset, The Star Vista has housed a vast number of eateries. Among several prevailing labels is this, District 10 Bar Tapas Restaurant.
Standing in an outlaying space somewhere on the circumference of the site, the third outlet emerged with a collection of more than 35 tapas and other classic dishes.
Mini Black Angus Cheddar Cheese Burger, $7.
What are Tapas? It is Spanish for a wide variety of appetisers or snacks served in bars. Convenient and quick, tapas are popular with drinkers who wanted a bite just before a binge.
At 4inches in height, this sandwich could hardly fill you up. Nonetheless, I was exhilarated to see semi-raw meat in the middle of the beef patty. That was enough to keep me happy.
Jumbo Crab Cakes, $14.
I love a good crab cake. Fresh shredded meat from the crustacean and some other ingredients packed into the shape of a patty and fried or baked till golden brown. The ones we had were stale and definitely two worlds apart. Do avoid.
Hoegaarden Battered Fish & Chips, $22.
At 22 buckaroos, any F&C could have fared better than these. No doubt the batter was light, the fillets were no where near yummy.
Wagyu Beef Cheeks Rendang Pizza, $28.
After a number of misses earlier on, I had lower expectations for the upcoming dishes.
When this pizza was served, we were skeptical as the huge chunks of beef cheeks appeared tough and parched.
Never, I say never prejudge a block of meat before the first munch especially if it is on a rendang pizza. Every nugget was the contrary of what they seemed to be, succulent and soft. The delight of the evening.
Crema Catalana, $9.80.
There is always a dessert stomach that is deliberately left empty in me.
I had something similar sometime back in Boxing Crab which was a lot tastier, check it out. This Creme catalana was not done well with an over-torched crust that was bitter. Fail.
Warm Chocolate cake with Vanilla Ice cream, $14.
What I love about these chocolate cakes are that they were always moist, rich and of course warm which was why I kind of visualised this to be the same. I wished I had liked the $14 confection more.
There were many blunders that day which then again made me wonder if anyone should patronise them. I would but only for any of their beef entrees and maybe an occasional mini burger.
