I would proudly exclaim that I am a modest food seeker of the East as I have been staying there all my life. Then again, when asked about the other parts of the island I would normally go dumbfounded. I have absolutely no idea what to recommend.
I was lucky to have been invited to SouthWest Tavern for a tasting. Despite the long journey from where I stay, I was very much satisfied after dinner.Effortlessly known for their Suicide Wings challenge, this cowboy themed restaurant is more than just torment.
Naga Bhut Jolokia aka Ghost Chilli.
Once known as the world’s spiciest pepper, this pretty looking thing should never be disregarded. Four hundred times hotter than your common tabasco sauce, you know you are in for a ‘Treat’. It is one of the main ingredients for the only contender on the menu.
Suicide Wing, ($18/6 pcs).
If you are smirking infront of the computer thinking: “This should be a piece of cake.”, do think again. It is way beyond your imagination and this is no joke. If you had the waitress and boss constantly inquiring about your mad decision for attempting the wings, I hope you realise what you are actually in for.
The sauce of the Suicide Wings is a mixture of two fiery peppers, so hot it will literally burn your throat. I was a scardy cat who only managed to pinch a negligible bit and it was enough to kill me. I NEEDED MILK, lots of milk.
Bloomin’ Onion, $12.
This got us excited. Yes it is only a humongous deep fried onion but it was a real eye-catcher. It tasted exactly like onion rings without being round that is. A substantial portion only to be attempted with a big crowd.
Grilled Salmon & Chips.
Fish & Chips.
I was taken aback by the size of the breaded fillet. It could easily be a whole fish on every plate of F&C, the chef does not scrimp on the food served. The seafood was fresh and the batter was light but I would think twice calling it the best in Singapore.
Grilled US corn-feed pork chops.
I would rank this number one. In Jurong, West area or even the whole island. I can’t help recollecting the full indulgence I had while pigging into the two generous slabs of chops.
A pair of dissimilar hunks of perfectly grilled porky flesh were plated with a choice of a couple of sides. Every mouthful was tender and succulent, every bite was reminiscent.
Medium Rare Ribeye Steak.
This might not be the finest cut of the animal but it could totally pull off as my comfort food.
